Beach Waves

Inspired by the look of beach girls with that tousled, saltwater, just-got-out-of-the-sea look, beach waves are pure summer. Laid back and gorgeous, they’re the style of the season.

So how to achieve the look when you’re nowhere near the beach? According to Terry Landers, it starts with towel-dried hair and a bit of product. Depending on the natural texture of your hair, he recommends less product for fine hair and more for heavier hair.

“The simplest strategy is twisting your towel-dried hair into a few buns at the nape of your neck and letting them air dry,” says Terry. “Air drying works best, but if you’re in a hurry, you can use your dryer on low heat, gently placed in the center of each bun.”

For quick waves on dry hair, Terry suggests using a curling iron with a barrel 1” or larger. Starting close to the scalp, wind the hair around the barrel down to about 2” from the ends. Hold briefly and let the hair fall from the curling iron naturally –– then loosely run your fingers through the curls.

Whatever technique you use for your beach waves, Terry says this: “Keep it subtle, keep it slightly disheveled, keep it natural.”
